Formation of Source Complex on the History of Galicia Ukrainians National-Cultural Movement in 1848-1914 (on the Example of Ukrainian Archival and Library Institutions)
Abstract
The paper illustrates the process of forming a complex of sources on the history of the Ukrainian national-cultural movement of Galicia during 1848-1914 years. The attention is drawn to both the historical and socio-political peculiarities of the period and the specifics of the administrative-territorial structure of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, to which the Ukrainian ethnic territories belonged at that period of time, the structure of state institutions, public associations, and the activity of Ukrainian culture leading figures. Autobiographies, memoirs, letters, journalistic and scientific works, along with the documents of administrative institutions, take an important place in the forming of our research source complex.
The author characterized the documents and materials of the official character and the sources of personal origin on the history of Galicia Ukrainians national-cultural movement of 1848-1914 years, which are stored in the national archival and library institutions: the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Lviv, the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Kyiv, the Central State Archives Museum of Literature and Arts of Ukraine, the state archives of Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil Regions (Oblasts), the Manuscripts Department of the Vasyl Stefanyk Lviv National Scientific Library of Ukraine, the Manuscript Institute of the V. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, the Department of Manuscripts and Textual Studies of the T. Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
In general, the work with domestic archival and library institutions enabled to form a considerable source complex of fully representative sources, a systematic study of which will make it possible to establish the completeness and objectivity of its information sources for the scientific reconstruction of the unbiased history of Ukrainian national-cultural movement of Galicia in the second half of the 19th – early 20th centuries.
