Role of Museums in the Context of Sustainable Development of Society Realization
Abstract
The concept of sustainable development is a topical transformational trend of today. Experts from various fields are involved in its theoretical and practical development. These issues are actively discussed in the context of international projects and interdisciplinary research. Historical and cultural heritage and museums also play an important role in achieving the goals of sustainable development of a society. The paper highlights current trends in the development of this field, the aspects of museums’ potential in the context of sustainable development in social, economic, cultural, environmental, urban and tourist spheres. The examples of international organizations’ activities, key documents, and recommendations, as well as promising directions for the realization of museum potential in the area of sustainable social development are analyzed in the paper.
