Abstract

The purpose of the research paper is to highlight the scientific and pedagogical path of Professor Petro Trygub during his work for the Mykolaiv Branch of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy – MF NaUKMA (Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University – Petro Mohyla ChNU) and to elucidate the researcher’s contribution to the development of the University, its faculties, departments, and specialties, as well as to the advancement of science and training of the scientific personnel.

The scientific novelty is determined by the fact that the role of Petro Trygub in the growth and development of Petro Mohyla ChNU has not yet been the subject of special analysis, since researchers who studied the scholar’s creative path focused their attention primarily on his fruitful work in the field of historical regional history studies in the South of Ukraine.

Conclusions. Two stages of the scientific and pedagogical path of Professor Petro Trygub in the Mykolaiv ‘Mohylianka’ have been determined, which to some extent coincide with the reorganization of the University and the change of its names and specializations. The first stage (1996-2002) involved work at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of MF NaUKMA, heading the Department of Socio-Economic Disciplines, later the Department of History and Philosophy. The second stage (2002-2016) is the time of formation of the Petro Mohyla Mykolaiv State Humanitarian University as an independent higher education institution, work at the Faculty of Political Sciences, initiating the opening of the specialty ‘International Relations’ at the University, organizational, educational, methodological, and scientific work in the field of training international relations experts in the Mykolaiv region.

Among the achievements of the first period were: the formation of the staff of the Department of History and Philosophy; the opening of a postgraduate course in the History of Ukraine and the successful training of young scholars; the beginning of the formation of Professor Petro Trygub scientific school of historical regional history studies in the South of Ukraine; the establishment of the collection of NaUKMA Research Papers (History), and its obtaining the status of a scientific professional publication on historical sciences.

The second stage is represented by the role of the scholar in the formation and development of the training of experts in International Relations, the first intake of which occurred in 2003. The specialty’s accreditation at all educational levels over the subsequent years could be attributed to the substantial and productive scientific and organizational efforts of Professor Petro Trygub. Highlighting that period of the scholar’s life and activities, a certain dualism in the work of P. Trygub should be noted. On the one hand, there was the scholar’s long-standing passion – historical regional history studies, which formed the basis of numerous dissertations on historical regional history studies written under his supervision. It was during that period in the early 2000s that the formation of his scientific school was completed.

Secondly, International Relations as a specialty of higher education and a scientific direction. Development of the Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy, the formation of its staff, work on the publication of the essential educational and methodological literature, and scientific activities of P. Trygub as a historian-expert in international relations.
